Losing religion for equal rights...

Origin : http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/losing-my-religion-for-equality-20090714-dk0v.html
Purpose :
This source is from an important figure 's point of view, Jimmy Carter. It talked about how women and girls had been discriminated against for a very long time, in a twisted interpretation of the word of god. Its purpose was to let the people know about the fact that women was not treated well not just in general, but also religiously.
Value :
This source is valuable because it is from a man perspective , and rather is an important person 's perspective. Because it if from a man interpretation, it is less likely to be exaggerated . Also , since this is the president opinion, it is more likely to be interesting, meaningful and at the same time, accurate
Limitation :
The limitation of this source is that, though it is the president's opinion, it also has to be publicly pleasing . In addition, this point of view is also from a third person point of view, he just sees what happened, but might not directly involve in it.
Analysis:
The author sees the that women and girls had been discriminated against for a long time. The author himself , had been practicing Christian and a deacon ad Bible teacher for many years. In spite of he is a very decent Christian follower, he cannot denied that there is unfairness toward women in Christianity. There is a sentence that is very carefully quote from the Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be "subservient" to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many things. Moreover, there is also a belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence and many other crimes...
" The impact of these religious beliefs touches every aspect of our lives. They help explain why in many countries boys are educated before girls, why girls are told when and whom they must marry..." said the author. This shows that religion beliefs are one of the main reasons in which women doesn't the same rights and treatments as men. Also, in some Islamic nations, women are restricted in their movements, and some even get punished for competing with men for a job.
Women back in the old days didn't get rights and treatment like men when it comes to religion. During the years of the early Christian church, women would served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets. All the leaders, and pope were men. The author disagrees with many unfairness that had happened to women, and gives a message to other people in order to give women the right they deserve.
